September 2012 NTEAA Meeting

The September 2012 meeting of the NTEAA was held at Don Herring Mitsubishi in Plano TX.  Ron Swanson president of the NTEAA opened the meeting. We had one new guest Dan S.

There was no old business to discuss.  Next weekend is the National Plug in day on Sunday September from 9 to 11 AM.  It will be at the Cinemark in Frisco square, 5655 Frisco Square Blvd, Frisco TX.  Jared has it posted on the NTEAA website. There will be an earth fair day at Pepsi in Plano on October 18th. See Ron Swanson for details.  The next meeting will be at Tanner Electronics, 1100 Valwood Parkway, Carrolton TX.  We are still planning an EV rally in November.  We will probably have two Leaf vehicles and one Mitsubishi “I”.  The goal is to drive the longest distance in 24 hours using level 3 charging.  The end of the rally will probably be at our November meeting.  We’ll need some volunteers for teams.  Ron Swanson has the details.  The December meeting will be at Joel’s house with the Christmas train.  During the membership project update we learned that there’s a new Leaf app for the I-Phone.  It has some good features including a one shot charger timer.  Sorry I didn’t get the name of the app.  We also learned that Blink has started charging for the use of the chargers.  No more free charges through Blink.  Charge point is free at half price books and the charger at TXU is free downtown.

After the meeting we were able to view and test drive the Misubishi MiEV.  They are now leasing the car for around $250 a month.  There’s also a $2000 incentive going on so that coupled with the $7500 tax refund is just about $10,000 off the price.  Now’s the time if your thinking about this car.  The advertised range is 68 miles highway and 80 miles mixed driving.  It has a 16Kw lithium ion battery and a level 3 charge port can be added or is standard depending on the model.  This is the lowest price OEM EV available and with the incentives can be had for under $25K.

Special thanks to Don Herring Mitsubishi for hosting the meeting.  They should be out at national plug-in day if you didn’t make the meeting and would like to see the car.  They also have some on the lot ready for delivery.
