Dallas Earth Day Event

Website :

The April 2013 meeting of the North Texas Electric Auto Association was held at Fair Park Dallas during the Dallas Earth Day events.  President Ron Swanson opened the meeting

Old Business:  We still are looking for a home for an outdoor pedestal charging station

New Business:

Interviews: There were two interviews this month.  One that Neil did with Victoria Hilbert for the Advocate.  She wanted to interview people with electric vehicles from their readership areas.  The other was done by Ron about charging for the local TV station.

Future Meetings: We haven’t heard about the scout show next month.  We will try to meet with the solar airplane when we get the dates.  We also learned that the Marriot in Plano has a meeting room available. The owner drives a Leaf and the Marriot has a couple of GE Watt stations for charging.  The Leaf reunion will be in June and we are thinking of a road trip visit Mike in Bonham in July.

Presentation: Ron will give a presentation titled “What’s the buzz with electric vehicles” at the Plano Library on May 9th at 7:00PM.

Other:   We learned that there are approximately 200 Tesla’s in the DFW area.   Neil is the proud owner of five scooters.  He’s trying to sell one and get the others running and looking good.  Stan has his scooter running and plans on a LiFePo pack.  He still need to install a DC-DC converter but reports it “scoots” along well.

Earth Day At Fair Park:   We had an awesome spot at the end of the fountain near the Dart entrance.  We were able to show three cars and had a booth with the display board in it.  We showed a new 2013 Nissan Leaf, Neil’s converted Golf, and a Tesla Model S.   Very special thanks to Jim Bradbury and Jerry Jorgenson.  Jim brought his brand new 2013 Nissan Leaf and stayed both days to help us and show it to the crowd.   Jerry is a very brave man for bringing his 2013 Tesla model S and letting everyone touch and sit in it.  Jerry and his Tesla was there both days also.  Stan was able to show his electric bike at the booth.  We had great weather and a good crowd so I hope we made some converts.  Lanny Shivers stopped to thank us for being there before we left.  I heard that Trammell S. Crow stopped by also to ask us about the Texas law that forbids Tesla from selling cars in Texas.  All in all a great weekend.
